Electric Railway Museum Limited is delighted to announce that it has taken over the full management of the Coventry Electric Railway Centre and has signed a new lease with the Coventry City Council for the continued use of the site. The move has come about due to the previous operating company, The Coventry Railway Centre Limited (CRCLtd), feeling the best way forward for the development of the site was to put it in the hands of a charitable body. This draws a line under the existence of the CRCLtd formed back in 1986 by members from the Battlefield Railway to preserve a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 tank engine, eventually setting up the site in Baginton with the intention of opening a steam centre. After two decades none of the original members remained in the CRCLtd and the site had changed direction considerably from its original aims and has for a number of years been home to the largest private collection of electric traction in the UK. The takeover comes at a time that Electric Railway Museum Limited is investing heavily in site improvement work with the installation of a new perimeter security fence carried out and the provision of both mains electricity and CCTV on site scheduled for the next six months. The former Coventry Railway Centre Limited company has now been formally wound up and all assets transferred to Electric Railway Museum Limited. |
