The vehicle was built in 1961 as part of an order for commuter trains between London and Essex, and was moved to newly electrified lines in West Yorkshire in the mid-1990s. It entered preservation in 2004, and restoration was begun by the AC EMU Group. The Electric Railway Museum took on the project in 2010, and are planning to restore and display the vehicle as a hybrid unit with the recently acquired class 307. Electric Railway Museum would like to thank everyone who donated to the appeal, and to all those volunteers who worked hard to make the move possible. |
As announced earlier this year, the sole remaining class 308, BDTSoL no 75881, has moved to Coventry, owing to redevelopment work at the Lea Valley Experience in Walthamstow, its home for the last seven years. Following an appeal to members and supporters, the York-built driving trailer left Walthamstow late on Thursday evening, arriving at Coventry Friday morning 22nd July.
