From Chelsea to Coventry; using old banners to protect our trains

The Electric Railway Museum has found a great way to protect the trains from the weather – by covering them in old display banners that are no longer needed!

Banners used to protect Electric Railway Museums's Trains

The banners are supplied by Octink, a display specialist based in West London, whose pioneering recycling and re-use scheme has won it a place on the prestigious Sunday Times Best Green Companies list.

Before being wrapped around the trains, the banners had a colourful history; some were used to promote Madonna and U2 concerts; others were wrapped around new buildings under construction and some were displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Some materials, including the PVC used to make banners, cannot be recycled and therefore re-use is the only option to avoid sending them to landfill. It’s a great example of how, with a little imagination, one company’s waste can be used to benefit another organisation.
