Electric Railway Museum Limited is pleased to announce that, as of Monday 29th March 2010, it has been granted registered charity status and issued with the number 1135280. Written confirmation was received from the Charity Commissioners yesterday, and the registration is the end result of a lengthy application and approval process to ensure that the work of the organisation, and the people running it, comply with the stringent requirements of registration.

The original concept for Electric Railway Museum dates back to late 2006 when electric traction preservationists met to discuss the need for a charitable body to further the needs of the movement as a whole, and the organisation was formed in mid 2007.

Electric Railway Museum has learning and educational aims which are being met with current and future publications on historic, socio-economic and technical topics both in printed matter and on a soon to be expanded website. Another aspect of the organisation's work is the gathering of archive libraries of technical information, such as drawings and manuals, along with photographs. All material is being catalogued with the intention of making access available for researchers and other interested parties. Traction and rolling stock restoration is the largest and most visible area of Electric Railway Museum’s work with the bulk of the collection based at Coventry.

Display of this collection forms part of the organisation's strategy, and to this end Electric Railway Museum is putting the final touches to its plan for a public open weekend at the Coventry site in September.
