OUR BELIEFS
Electric Railways have a long history that is rich in both technical innovation and socio-economic impact.
Many aspects of our everyday life would not have been possible without the creation of the Electric Railway,
these include:
High Speed Rail Travel
Underground Railways
The Channel Tunnel
Light Rapid Transit
Outer Urban Housing Developments
Electric Railways are the dominant form of rail travel and will only continue to become more successful and
further impact our lives, this makes the history of their origins and development highly significant.
OUR AIMS
Electric Railway Museum Limited is committed to the continued development of a museum where the story of the history of the
electrification of Britain’s Railways is both told and celebrated. The museum will be:
A venue that people of all ages can visit and find an entertaining, educational and worthwhile experience.
A working museum, not all the items will be purely static. Operation of the trains in the way they were built to be operated
is important to us.
Built to a single theme. The story the museum tells should not be diluted on site with other non-electric railway preservation
projects that can be seen elsewhere in railway preservation.
Home to a selection of electric locomotives, multiple units and supporting artefacts as a basis for a heritage collection
adequately representing national areas and types of operation of electric railways.
OUR VISION
Electric Railway Museum wants to build a facility that will be fit for all our requirements for years to come to both house our
collection and have facilities for them to be restored to a high standard and provide facilities for our visitors.
Covered workshop building to provide facilities for overnight stabling, routine maintenance and heavy restoration of locomotives
and vehicles.
Museum hall containing a selection of static rail exhibits giving visitors a close quarters representation of the evolution of the
British electric train, a basic guide to the properties of electricity and the engineering of an electric train.
A short working demonstration railway, electrified by conductor rails along its route to allow trains to be demonstrated and ridden
in by visitors. Operation takes equal emphasis to display for visitor interpretation.

The Electric Railway Museum project is very much a 'Work In Progress' with the project in its embryonic stage. With the support of people like you together we can make this ambition a reality.
